Sign Standards Update

The Village’s signage regulations are currently contained in Chapter 272, Signs and Billboards and Chapter 345, Zoning of the Village Code. These regulations are not only spread amongst two areas within the Code, but are outdated and not in line with the vision for Port Chester.

As part of the Village's efforts to improve the aesthetics of the community, especially in conjunction with the Village’s 150th Anniversary in 2018, the Village undertook a number of initiatives back in 2017. These included:

  • Preparation of Downtown Design Guidelines
  • Preparation of a Downtown Streetscape Plan
  • Installation of Gateway Signage
  • Revising the Zoning Code to a new Form-Based Code

Each of these initiatives have touched upon signage within the Village, but do not directly change the rules and regulations that the Village is governed by to review and regulate signage. To that end, the Village has hired TPUDC to prepare an update to the Sign Standards that will be incorporated and aligned directly with the new Plan the Port Code.

Stay tuned for a draft of the new standards to be released in early 2019.
