To facilitate your review of the code, we have prepared an executive summary that gives you a snapshot of the new standards and the differences with the existing code.

The purpose of this Executive Summary report is to introduce form-based codes or character-based codes, and to provide guidance as to how to use the Form-Based Code. Specifically, this document will enable Village staff, Trustees, and the public-at-large to familiarize themselves with how a form-based code regulates development for a particular piece of property. This document is outlined as follows:

    1. Form-Based Code Overview
    2. Introduction to Character Districts
    3. Breakdown of Specific Character District Regulations
    4. Building Types
    5. Lot Layers & Encroachments

About 100 people packed the Caver Center in Port Chester last week to consider some novel development concepts as part of Port Chester’s efforts to overhaul its zoning regulations, according to the Westchester County Business Journal.

Billed as Planapalooza, the presentation was part of a series of events that looked at affordable housing, transportation, open space and waterfront development among issues facing the village’s future. Town Planning & Urban Design Collaborative, a Tennessee-based planning consultant hired by the village of Port Chester to lead an effort to modernize its zoning, ran the session which contemplated different example development schemes for the village.

“This is the way you start thinking about the future,” Brian Wright told a crowd of Port Chester residents on March 28. “You draw big ideas and you see what happens.”

Wright is founder and principal of Town Planning & Urban Design Collaborative, a Tennessee-based planning consultant hired by the village of Port Chester to lead an effort to modernize its zoning. He was speaking in front of a projection screen at the village’s Carver Center as the finale to a week of community planning and discussion events known as Planapalooza, a term Wright’s company trademarked.
